Ripoff Report Verified Safe
My wife and I last night had a run-in with the Kirby Vaccum Salemen. I'll be honest I think the product is very good, but the way it is sold is just wrong.
First, the demo was going great, and the vaccum performed outstanding. Then came the sales pitch. The sales price was $2600.00 for the new Sentria model. Well, I told them to give me their card so I could think about it. I was told the whole time that 'It's an investment'. Well, I understand that, but they need to understand $2000 is a one heck of an investment
to make in 2 hours (that's how long the 'short' demo took). Then they went down on the price to $1900, and along the way telling us in a 'nice way' how dirty our house was. Next they dropped to $1350, again with the high pressure sales pitch. Then finally, down to $950. It took a lot of 'NO's' to get them out of our house, and was being very polite even though I was starting to get pretty ticked off.
Sorry to all the salepeople on this report, but I don't care if it was $300. I don't make 'investments' that quick without knowing the product or the company. I was taught in college to always know the company that one buys stock
. If you don't know it then learn about it. Well, I'm learning a lot right now. I don't care if the vaccum is made of gold, it's not worth $500. I can buy a 1000 gal steel fuel tank
for under $1500. Now if I would have filled that tank with gasoline this past winter I would have saved $1.50 a gallon this summer. That savings would have paid for the tank. Now, that is a 'TRUE' investment.
You saleman disgust me. My saleman told me how Seniors are his biggest customers. Well, my wife and I thought about everything these salemen said after they left our home. The reason they sell to so many Seniors is because these poor people don't like being jerks to these salemen, and some seniors probably fall for their 'I'm trying to food table' routine. I ask you so called saleman what deals do you give seniors? I mean, I had to say 'NO' how many times to get you down to $950. Now, you took $2000 from a old person that needs that money to pay housing, medical bills, and prescriptions. Will the vaccum take care of their medications? I doubt it. But you don't care. It's all about the sale. Next time I see a Kirby saleman in my little town (and I don't care at who's house) I will beat his or her ass out of the city limits. It's one thing to try sell me something, but to screw old people out of money ticks me off. And then on top of that, you probably sold them on that crazy high interest payment plan. I like how you need to put food on your table, but you could care less about taking prescriptions or food off a old person's table.
I hope the Kirby vaccum company changes they sales direction, because their great product is being towed through the mud.

Don't Let These Go Near You!
My Kirby Story (More like a day in HELL)
I also went through the same thing and Kirby. I saw an ad on the Craigslist saying they had 12 Customer Service jobs available paying at $2100 a month. I flipped and called right away setting up an interview for the next day.
Went in for my interview and was told to call back in a few hours to see if I got the job and lo and behold I did and was told to show up for training the next day. I was so excited as with that paycheck every month I would have no problem supporting me and my pregnant wife.
Showed up the next day for training the next day and started telling us what we were going to be doing. We were told we would be advertising the Kirby Vacuum Cleaner and that appointments were set up weeks before with the clients and that these people need technical support with they're already purchased Kirby or were interested in buying one. During training they showed us how it worked how to put it together and to me it started to sound more like selling then advertising
At the end of the 3 day training period we were told we could make WAY more money then $2100 a month. That $2100 a month was guaranteed to be giving to you at the end of the month but that if your advertising speel made the potential customers want to purchase the Kirby then you would get a commission from $200 to up to $500 depending on how much it sold for and how they were going to pay for it. I wasn't so into going into people's homes and invading their privacy but figured if I was going to be making $1000 a week and wouldn't have to be knocking on doors and that these appointments were already set up and that I only had to advertise it then HELL YEAH lets do this.
First day of work had to be there at 5:30 said breakfast would be provided for us, WOOP TI DOO sure enough we got a little biscuit for breakfast and were sent out the door in teams in these trashy vans and trucks that looked like they were about to fall apart! We got to a neighborhood and sent us out in teams of 2 to guess what..................KNOCK ON DOORS! I was shocked and said we were never told we were going to be knocking on doors my boss told me to shut up and go make some money. 1,000 doors later somebody says yes to the free carpet cleaning mind you not the Kirby Vacuum cleaner being sold to them. I was in there for 2 hours as polite as I could be and knowing I was lying to them the whole time...........I hated the entire demo as obviously she didn't have the money and on top of that I was given a broken vacuum to demo with so when it came to shampooing her floor it didn't work. I called my boss and told him it didn't work and he came over and told me I broke it and owe $400 for breaking it! After that demo I was starving freezing cold and soaking wet as it was raining the entire time I was out knocking on doors and asked if I could get some food. Fuck no my boss told me, "since you screwed up with this demo your gonna go and watch one of our other more experienced guy do the demonstration.
I went to watch and saw how rude and unprofessional the other salesman was. He wasn't listening to anything the homeowner had to say and was mocking him and was definitely not building rep or with the man as was really mean. After watching him I was told to go outside and find one of the girls that was knocking on doors. It was pouring rain and freezing cold and I was running around the entire neighborhood trying to find her. Of course when I didn't find her I had to go back to the house and boy I sure got it from my boss!!!! By this time I was emotionally and physically exhausted and I'm about ready to pass out from not eating anything all day. Its comes to around 7:00 pm and I'm told they have another demo set up for me to redeem myself. I'm surprised because I figure that on a Sunday you would stop at around 5:00 as people start settling down for dinner and need to get there kids in be by 7:00. But I go in do the demo and find out that Kirby has been in there before and has already done the whole call the boss thing and get the price down so they knew from the spot that I was there to sell them the vacuum cleaner and they new what the lowest price for the cleaner was so I do the demo and a favor and clean a couple of their rooms just so I do what I said in the beginning I would do. They were very nice and weren't in anyway rude but by the time it came around to 10:00 they were ready to get rid of me. So I call my boss and tell him to pick me up because I'm done so he comes and starts trying to sell it to they guy who obviously was going to purchase as his company was going through layoffs and he couldn't afford a $1000 vacuum. So as we are about ready to leave my boss asks if I called the sales desk, I said no as I figured we weren't going to sell it there was no need to try to get the price down since they knew what the lowest price was. So I get on my phone and call the sales desk and explain to them the situation. This guy starts cussing me out and telling me to follow the lines and only the lines, which are (Hi I'm here doing a demo and these people are very interested in getting the Kirby....blah blah blah..CRAP!)
He starts verbally abusing me in all sorts of manners and was really not what I expected for a high class professional. So after I finish that phone call I'm ready to go home its been 17 hours and I'm ready to go home. We all pack up and go back to the office where we have to clean everything and restock which ends up taking 2 more hours so I finally get off at 1:00 PM and get home at around 1:30 and I collapsed and to make a long story short was sick in the hospital for 2 weeks with pneumonia.
Of course they didn't pay me for anything I did (even though paid training was promised) and of course I wasn't going to go back so I wasted about 5 days and got completely set back. Point of the matter is DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH KIRBY!!! I agree with you totally they SUCK! Don't let them in your homes!! They'll take your time possibly steal from you, lie to you and do anything all in an effort to get you to buy one all under the pretense that they are doing a promotion/free carpet cleaning which is all bullshit. They will clean a spot on your carpet and that's it.
